Biography
Kat is an Associate Attorney at GEM, practicing in all areas of family law. Kat has specialized in family law and domestic violence for the entirety of her career, practicing in Arizona before relocating to Colorado. Kat is passionate about assisting families and advocating for her clients and their children.
Kat received her Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, where she also received a certificate in Family and Juvenile Law. Kat was a Graduate Assistant for the B.A. and Master’s in Law Program throughout law school, assisting the master’s level and undergraduate students to grasp legal concepts in civil and criminal procedure and Constitutional law, and grading student assignments and exams in these courses.
During law school, Kat also interned at Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. in their Domestic Relations Unit, gaining practical family law experience in domestic violence and other family law matters. Kat additionally practiced law as a student attorney in the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law’s Domestic Violence Law Clinic. Kat has a keen understanding of domestic violence issues and has worked on systemic change projects to make the legal system more accessible for survivors. As a researcher, Kat has reviewed dozens of orders of protection and used this information for her paper that was published in the Wisconsin Journal of Law Gender and Society (2023). Kat additionally presented at the 2022 VAWA Institute at Colorado’s Annual Judicial Conference in 2022 on domestic violence and credibility discounting. Kat has presented additional seminars on family law issues, domestic violence, domestic violence and its impact on custody, and trauma informed practices.
Kat has served as a Staff Attorney at Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc., representing survivors of domestic violence in divorce, custody, and protection order matters. At Legal Aid, she developed a Domestic Violence Law Clinic Pilot Program, creating and teaching seminars on domestic violence and supervising law student attorneys.
Kat received her undergraduate degree from The University of Colorado, Boulder, where she double majored in Psychology and Sociology, with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. During college, Kat interned at a safe shelter for survivors of domestic violence, where she did outreach and violence prevention work.
Kat is licensed to practice law in both Colorado and Arizona.
