Biography

The Honorable Judge Jennifer Torrington (Ret.) is a retired Colorado district court judge with more than two decades of judicial experience. Judge Torrington (Ret.) served with distinction as a judicial officer in Denver from 2004 through 2025, presiding over a wide range of matters in the domestic, civil, criminal, and juvenile divisions. During her time on the bench, Judge Torrington (Ret.) developed a particular passion for family law and compassion for the litigants involved in family law matters.

Throughout her judicial career, much of Judge Torrington (Ret.)’s work focused on families and children involved in the legal system. Her experience overseeing complex and emotionally sensitive cases has given her deep insight into the challenges individuals face during family law disputes and other difficult legal matters.

Judge Torrington (Ret.) is widely respected for her thoughtful and balanced approach to resolving disputes. Drawing on her years on the bench, she works to ensure that every party has the opportunity to be heard while encouraging solutions that are fair, practical, and focused on long-term outcomes.

In addition to her work on the bench, Judge Torrington (Ret.) has been an active leader within the Colorado legal community. She has presented at numerous legal education programs, including the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the Family Law Institute, and the Colorado Judicial Conference. She has also served on the Colorado Child Support Commission and the Judicial Well-Being Committee, and she co-chaired the Licensed Legal Paraprofessionals Subcommittee of the Colorado Supreme Court Advisory Committee.

Judge Torrington (Ret.) was honored with the Distinguished Jurist Award from the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Colorado Chapter, in recognition of her contributions to the family law community. She has also received recognition for her work advancing access to justice and improving legal services in Colorado.

Judge Torrington (Ret.) is passionate about helping families resolve matters through alternative dispute resolution and offers mediation services, arbitration, and private judge appointments. 

She also remains committed to mentoring attorneys and supporting the legal community, including through the Metro Volunteer Lawyers Program and mentorship of judges assigned to domestic divisions.
