Q. How long have you been an attorney?
A. I’ve been an attorney for almost 2 years.
Q. Have you ever worked in any other areas of the law?
A. As an attorney, I’ve only worked in family law. During law school, I worked as a Student Attorney in the University of Colorado Juvenile and Family Law Clinic, representing clients in divorce, dependency and neglect, and juvenile delinquency cases.
Q. What drew you to family law?
A. I always knew that I wanted to work in an area of law where I can work directly with “real people” as my clients. Family law attorneys have the privilege of working with clients on an individual level on cases that have a lot of personal significance to them. It was important to me to choose a career path that would give me the opportunity to make a difference in my clients’ personal lives.
Q. What do you enjoy most about family law?
A. I love working in an area of law where I can connect with my clients on a personal level and can work on cases that hold deep personal importance to my clients. I also love that in the course of my work I get to work with clients from a wide variety of backgrounds and lifestyles. No two clients or families are the same, and there is never a “boring day” at work for me!
Q. What do you think makes you stand out among other professionals?
A. One thing that makes me stand out as a lawyer is the strength of my communication skills, both in speaking and writing. My undergraduate degree is in English, which gave me the opportunity to expand my love for writing. While pursuing my degree in English, I competed in writing competitions, and won awards for scholarly writing and for creative non-fiction writing. I love that my role as a family law attorney routinely gives me a chance to use my writing skills to advocate for my clients.
Q. Are you originally from Colorado? If so, what do you love most about it? If not, what brought you to Colorado and what do you love most about it?
A. I am originally from Colorado and grew up in the Denver metro area. I love Colorado’s (mostly) sunny weather and that I have year-round access to the beautiful Rocky Mountains. My hobbies include running and hiking, and living in Colorado gives me plenty of opportunities for both.
Q. When you are not working at GEM Family Law, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
A. When I’m not working, I enjoy running, hiking, and baking. I enjoy having a mix of “outdoor” and “homebody” hobbies, so that I always have something to do regardless of the weather and my energy level.
Q. What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A. Something interesting that many people don’t know about me is that I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan. In high school, I read most of J.R.R. Tolkien’s published works, and I learned how to read and write in the Elvish letter system that Tolkien created for his fantasy series. A close friend and I founded a “Tolkien Club” at our high school, and she and I occasionally still correspond in the made-up Elvish language to stay brushed-up on our skills.
